Working Trees Description

🌳  Working Trees gets farmers paid for growing trees. This is possible thanks to our phone application, which rips the cost out of carbon project measurement and verification. Our goal is to democratize access to carbon markets for farms of any size.

Trees on agricultural land (a practice called agroforestry) is among the largest climate solutions we have, typically sized on-par with rooftop solar (see IPCC and Project Drawdown).

We have launched the first agroforestry carbon project in the US, raised >$7.5m of non-dillutive funding, and partnered with organizations such as Stanford, The Nature Conservancy, The Organic Valley Cooperative, Cisco, XPRIZE, and Virginia Tech to advance agroforestry adoption.

We seek individuals who are deeply passionate about using their skills to address the climate crisis and prioritize building a working solution rather than a perfect one. This is an opportunity to play a foundational role at an early stage and growing climate tech startup and make a significant positive contribution toward addressing climate change.

Responsibilities for Head of USA

1. 🌳  Bring onboard acres | Make use of our ~400,000+ acres (and growing) of interested landowners to bring them from interest to trees successfully growing in the ground. This will include:
   1. Increasing farmer awareness and interest
   2. Streamlining the decision-making process for farms, to include providing the technical support needed to get farms over the line (whether outsourced or in-house)
   3. Iterating our approach to increase conversion and track towards a more repeatable/scaleable model
   4. Ensuring farmer success with planting and ongoing tracking and maintenance
2. 💵 Buyer and financing engagement | As needed, support the leadership and Business Development team to close additional resources
3. 🙌🏼 Customer and grant management | Manage relationships with existing customers and the USDA (a primary funder) - you’d be the lead on our RCPP and CIG grants
4. 👟 Teamwork | Interface with field, product, science, engineering and business development teams — we are a startup, and you’ll work with everyone.

Qualifications for Head of USA

• Strong mission alignment
• Hands-on experience working directly with livestock producers, ideally in adopting new land practices
• Experience designing and implementing forestry and agroforestry systems, silvopasture systems preferred
• Based in the Eastern US
• Quick learner, comfortable with fast-paced environment and previous startup experience
• Bonus:
  • Experience with carbon methodologies (e.g. Verra, Plan Vivo, Gold Standard, ABACUS), including leading the development of project description documents, sampling routines, uncertainty quantification, and running validation/verification processes.
